Silver urn of Saint Ermengol
This urn is an example of the best metalwork from the eighteenth century. It was made between 1753 and 1755 by the Barcelona-based silversmith Pere Lleopart.
It is shaped like a reliquary sepulchre comprised of an octagonal box and a lid topped by the reclining figure of the saint. Around the box, twelve episodes from the life of Saint Ermengol are depicted on embossed, gilded copper panels. An inscription tells us the author and date: ‘Petrus Lleopart, fasiebat, Barcelona. Lo any 1755’.
