Our Lady of Caregue Mountain
This is an image of the Virgin with Child presented as a Sedes Sapientae (Throne of Wisdom). It stands out for its frontality and rigidity, even though we can begin to detect the sculptor’s desire to capture Mary and Jesus’s gestures and the folds of their clothing with greater realism, as well as to depict their faces in a kinder, softer fashion. It is an outstanding carving due to the modelling of both the bodily features and the clothing. On the back it has a chamber with a lipsanotheca, which makes it an image-reliquary.
